What do you do when your child says: 'You can't turn off the TV because I'M THE BOSS"?

My eldest son is 25 now.

I know this sounds so predictable, but it really does seem like a couple of years ago when aged 2, he screamed at me:

“You can’t turn off the TV because I’M THE BOSS!”

It wasn’t long after that that my husband and I reached out for help...

What's the difference between punishment and discipline?

I was talking to my husband the other day about my emails – he’s a loyal supporter of my work and is on my mailing list.

He said "That one you wrote about whether you should discipline your child was great"

"Do you mean the one with the title:

‘Should you ever punish a...

Why do kids run off and what we can do about it

Have you ever had the experience of being around other kids when you realise that your own are just so badly behaved in comparison?

I was once at the playground with a friend who was visiting from America with her two kids.

It felt like hers were so much better behaved than mine.

My child just won't listen to me!

Way back in 1999 when I first got help for parenting with Nico, my unruly toddler, the coach asked:

“Does he know who’s in charge?”

My husband – aka my tech...

Why do they save the bad behaviour for us?

Do you love change?

I'm great with change when I am in a good emotional state but if I'm feeling at all wobbly, which often happens, then I start to get anxious and difficult to be around.

Not long after Nico, my eldest, had started in reception*, he came out of school in a really foul mood.

I was in a such a bad mood

I was really irritated a couple of days ago. I’d had a spat with my husband and I was feeling so annoyed with him.

It is a pretty rare couple that doesn’t argue but boy is it hard when you do, isn't it?

Anyway, where was I?

Oh yes. SO I was really preoccupied by this argument and...

It's all your fault

My mother’s favourite expression is ‘A mother’s place is in the wrong’.

It makes me smile and it is so easy to slip into guilt around motherhood and be tempted to fix things when they’ve gone wrong.

It has certainly felt like that for me.

I remember my daughter...

Will you please STOP WHINING!

Researchers say they may now have scientifically proven that a child whining is one of the most distracting sounds on the planet.

Worse than the unpleasant screeches of a table saw catching repeatedly on a piece of wood. Even harder to ignore than cringe-inducing exaggerated baby-talk of...
