Why do kids run off and what we can do about it

May 24, 2022

Have you ever had the experience of being around other kids when you realise that your own are just so badly behaved in comparison?

I was once at the playground with a friend who was visiting from America with her two kids.

It felt like hers were so much better behaved than mine.

She said ‘It’s time to go now’, her’s came over, got their shoes on and stood waiting patiently at the gate.

Mine said “NOOOOOO” and ran off.

I was so infuriated.

I felt a stab of shame. I’m a parenting coach and I can’t even get my kids to do a simple task like that?

Well there are times when things just don’t go the way we want them to - like at that moment.

We can over-react (often out of shame and embarrassment) or we can keep our cool and forgive ourselves for not having perfect kids.

In this week’s ‘vlog’ - (I’m a bit behind the curve and only just understood what that meant - video blog :)) I'm giving you some thoughts that I wish I'd remembered when I got all hot around the collar at the playground.

I’ve kept it to 2 minutes 59 seconds. Click above to watch it.

Perrin Sole, head teacher at a leading London nursery said this about :

"This video course is amazing and so in-line with everything I believe and tell my parents too. I was so engaged in everything you had to say that I just couldn’t stop watching the 5 lessons. I was highly impressed and I think parents would really benefit from watching your courses. I'm so inspired by what you do and really relate to your work as it’s something I do with my parents on a constant basis."
