When your child refuses to hold your hand

Apr 03, 2024

As parents, we've all experienced those heart-stopping moments when our child tries to break free and wander off in a crowded area.

It's a scenario that can evoke feelings of frustration, anxiety, and even panic.

In these moments, our instinctive reaction might be to resort to commands and threats, hoping to regain control of the situation quickly.

But what if there's a gentler, more effective way to handle these challenging moments?

In the video above, I shared a powerful alternative approach to dealing with kids who try to run off.

Instead of reacting with threats or coercion, we can choose empathy and collaboration and it works!

AND then, a powerful alternative way of speaking to them, which makes it easier for everyone AND gets them to do what we've asked!  How great would that be?.

At first glance, this approach might seem time-consuming and ineffective. After all, why don't kids just listen and do as they're told?

The truth is, when we communicate with our children in a respectful and understanding manner, it has a profound impact on our relationship and their willingness to cooperate.

By acknowledging their feelings and offering alternatives, we empower them to feel heard and respected.

This video illustrates how these subtle shifts in communication can transform challenging moments into opportunities for connection and growth.

It's a reminder that parenting is not about exerting control, but rather about fostering understanding and cooperation.

So, the next time you find yourself in a situation where your child tries to wander off, I encourage you to give this gentle approach a try. You might be surprised by the positive response it elicits.
